Condolences and Sympathies

It is often natural for us to be at a loss for words at the announcement of a death. Yet, oftentimes, it is at these moments too, when words of comfort may be most needed whether it be through a condolence card or through a note with the sympathy flowers.  Here are some examples of condolences that are simple yet sincere.

  • With our deepest sympathies (with sympathy flower)
  • His/Her memory lives on in our hearts
  • With our deepest sympathy and prayers
  • May his/her souls rest in peace with his/her Maker
  • He/She will live on in our hearts forever
  • She/He will always be remembered in our prayers
  • She/He will always be in our hearts
  • His/Her life and works will lighten our darkness.
  • She/He will be sorely missed
  • Her/His life is an inspiration to many.
  • Be comforted by the knowledge that he/she is well with his/her Maker.

It is also thoughtful to add a prior line or two about the deceased.  It does not have to

be long and it does not have to be a litany of who and what he/she was to you.  A simple sentence recalling to mind a singular memory about the deceased will definitely show the sincerity of your remembrance to the bereaving family.  Here are some examples.

  • I will always remember the way he would offer me a cup of his specially-brewed coffee.
  • Maria was a truly special art teacher who added color to our lives.
  • Midnight phone conversations with Veronica will be sorely missed.
  • The Women’s Club will never be the same without her untiring support.
  • We will miss Aunt Nana’s purple skirt and warm embrace.
  • I’m keeping her needlework on my wall and her memory in our hearts.
  • Her music will continue to be played on in her student’s lives.
